BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY

Government Hiding Failure

September 2, 2008 · 2 Comments

GOVERNMENT IS DISGUISING its shortcomings by continuing to claim they found plenty of financial irregularities upon taking office, an Opposition Senator claimed yesterday.

Kerrie Symmonds, the former Member of Parliament for St James North, was commenting on recent remarks made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Chris Sinckler who, on the eve of the Democratic Labour Party’s annual general conference, said the seven-month-old administration had been unable to fulfil all it’s election promises because of the financial mess left by the previous Government.

“To say the Barbados Labour Party had left a financial mess is an ugly disguise of this Government’s failure to deliver on outlandish and un-implementable election policies,” Symmonds told the SUNDAY SUN in response yesterday.Inconsistent factors

According to the Senator, the actions of the DLP Government do not indicate Barbados is in a financial bind. “It is absurd in the extreme to contend that there is a financial mess when the Government itself is preparing within the next few days, to commence free travel for all school children on state-run [Transport] Board buses.”

“Equally inconsistent is the fact that during the last three months we have had an Estimates exercise, a full budget debate, the issuing of a Central Bank’s Governor’s quarterly report and even an IMF article for consultation, and during none of these major financial exercises was a single word uttered about any crisis, inability to pay bills, or financial difficulties which should challenge a competent and dutiful administration,” Symmonds stated.

According to Symmonds, Sinckler’s comments indicate the first-time minister “is out of his field, and out of his depth on these critical matters of implementing policy as promised by the DLP Government”.Unfulfilled promises

Also, the former parliamentarian believes the DLP Government continues to fail to live up to most of its pre-election promises to Barbadians.

“Who has heard of any explanation for the failure to remove VAT from building materials for houses valued up to $400 000, which was a manifesto promise to be completed within 100 days of election?” Symmonds asked.

He added that Government has gone silent on a proposed home ownership revolving fund, which they had pledged to implement as a first priority to give interest-free mortgages to public servants.

“Even on the simple issue of transparency one wonders, whenever will we hear of an after-cabinet Press conference from the DLP Government again?”

Symmonds said Government’s litany of excuses for non-performance would not dissuade the Opposition from continuing to focus the public’s attention on some of the tragic failures of this new Government.

Well what nonsense we see with this free bus fare rides for school children!

    It is utter maddest!!!!!

How can barbadaian be so blind?

this polictical exercise in finacial and economic maddest with soon show its conquences to all

Not only dose this excerices put a dent in the transport board finanical status but it will also quietly result in jobs loss in the human transportation sector

    HOW?

well three divsion in this area will be affected negatively.

1, THe minu -bus and zr van owners and operator will see the daily in take of fun reduced markedly
;and with time some operators will realise that that daily effort will equal the imput cost or worse and thus loses the incentive to continue in the area of trade.

Results : cut in cost of operations which can include reduce route serives by some owner(i,e have few van operating or let go some people.

2.The transport board will be lossing money with this exercise. even if the service was not breaking across the profit line before september 2nd 2008 , at least they were get some money back to cover they operating cost. Now the transport board is getting nothing back!

SOME BOBY HAVE TO PAY and the only way the governement will recover cost is either through increase taxation or INCREASE in bus FARES

I expect that to happen any time in the next ten weeks or so . with the shift form the ZRs and Mini-Buses to transport board , .its implys that the bus of transport borad with see increase wear and tear fom the addition loads place on them ,

I understand that this foolish government has not plans to up grade the fleet on the schuldlue practiced by the last blp governement.

So the result is increased maintain cost.

these idiots really digging a hole for them selfs!!!

4.those private home charters who used to find so degree of income by collecting and taking children to school on behalf of parents and other househoders will soon find they trade reduced and result in loss income.

All of factors may look invisible or things not needing attention , but the conquensence of these economically ignorance governement policies will be come even more obvisous to the lay person in the coming months

the government is carrying us backward not forward,
people who are not thinking or paying attention to the knock on varibles will halt this free bus ride move a great, people who can recognised the conquensed will look on in horror as these effects take hold slowly

    Other things

THis mp for st john setting all kinds of record for private jet flying by a pm in the carribbean.

None of our previous Pm did this so why must he?

I have a few qusetions for this thing called dlp government, who found cutting sussides on flour, animal feed , diesil and gas . and now electricty as purdent fiscal measure need for this government finacial status.

    1. how much money wunna paying clico for use of that jet per trip?

How much money has be paid so far to the company out of the governement funds?

Thats a big TIME dlp SECREAT
may be the public account commintte need to bought to this and carry out what thompson like to say , a finacial frensic audit of things ?

I heard that Puff Daddy ( aka Pee Diddy aka Sean Coombs) was complaining just last weekend about the High price of gas and that it was costing him $200,000 us a for a trip just between NYC and L.A on his private jet?

It looking like abuse of VIP status

So if that is what cost him to travel 3000 miles , this Barbados pm done fly to china twice , when to obama acceptance speech (strange though ) one had to get a triket to get in there and the barbados pm was the only polictical form the caribbean there?

how come none of the rest of caribbean leaders anit get invited and get a free tricket?

    that real strange?

why the man aint win yet?

what kind of message are the dlp senting to the republian PARTY if they win ?

How that was either real stupid move or a person wish trip , covered up with polictical twist mouth talk

I some how feel it the latter

    what do we see?

when ever thomson was ask about economic matters and he did not have an answer he turned his head left toward Darcy Boyce.

    what a laugh.

high light to the public the continue
    faulted
economic policys of this DLP thing call a goverment

    they
confirmed that they will be a deficit.

    oh dear,

any nut could have told them
    that?

with free bus rides for school children, some boby will have to paid?

and again more treat to the distrubultion sector form Vagit thompson

    >

    how unrealistic can
this representive for st john can be?

how can he except business to lower they prices ina 5 day to 10 day period just becasue he lowered the price of gas [ which was way long overdue]
NUT , the sector must be gaven time to adjust the stocks base on the precost for ordering and disturbuliton1

if the y just lower thye price just like that , it will hurt the business cost of operation seiuos,
    the cost must be recovered

the nUt must also recognise that the cost assoccated with the distubultion sector {specfic to food} is
an imported element in the cost equation

But instaed of demostrating an understanding of the structure ,
the mp for st john says he treating to bring price control to certain items!

    well DLP people
YOU DO THAT AND SEE JUST HOW

    QUICK LY THE
    RESENT MENT WILL DEVELOP ACROSS
    THIS ISLAND.

Seem to me the same kind of talk is in cirrulation about private houing rentals

    DO that DLP

    we will
see shortage in items on the selve

    retailors
will simple refused to stock them

    DLP NUTS!

I really have a good laugh at this
    dlp dumb retarted government

and as it related to rental controll for housing

people will simply leave them empty

if it dose not pay to opperate

keep up the dumb work dlp

so please go full steam ahead

We just here waiting for 2013 pateintly
