BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY

Opposition politics not easy at all.

November 16, 2007 · 11 Comments

Opposition politics can be soul-destroying in small economies where lateral movement to high paying jobs in the private sector is negligible.

Former Secretary of State, Kenry Kissinger or former Defence Secretary, Robert McNamara, could move easily from a high profile job in an American administration to an equally high profile job in the private sector with the twinkling of an eye.

However, if truth be told, in many instances top level administrators in American or even British administrations often accept these positions conscious of the fact that their pay packets would be much smaller.

The story has been told that on accepting the position of Secretary of State under former president Richard Nixon, Kissinger was given the assurance by one of the Rockyfeller clan that he would top- up his salary so that he would not experience any financial loss on assuming office.

The situation is quite different in the Caribbean where the economies are small and the number of high paying jobs is limited.

The question must be asked: “Where can a well known politically appointed operative or a former high profile politician find a position of equal status in the private sector on leaving office?

In many cases these functionaries have to sit out 10 or 15 years in opposition and endure tremendous economic hardships unless they are members of the honourable professions of law or medicine.

It is with this reality in mind that Barbadians must take the sanctimonious posturing of DLP propagandist, Reuden Eversley, with a pinch of salt.

In these small economies many individuals hide their inability to find gainful employment in the private sector, or for that matter the public sector, by establishing consultancies in their respective fields.

However, with the limited number of opportunities available in these small economies, many of these consultants are unable to sustain themselves while participating in opposition politics.

Under these circumstances, the local electorate must view their desperate outpourings with a measure of distrust.

Even though Eversley and other DLP scribes are aware that the high cost of food items is presenting major challenges to regional and metropolitan countries, they prefer to present the false argument that the Owen Arthur administration is showing a reluctance to deal with it because the wholesalers and retailers are the BLP’s natural constituencies.

Are we to believe that if the DLP were to assume office following the next general election the high price of food will be brought under control immediately?

This is patently false, and Eversley and other DLP scribes are aware of it, but it is not in their interest to say so at this time.

Their main goal at this time is to get their hands on the reins of power so that they would have friends at court who can assist them in achieving their goals in life.

I am told that some DLP operatives have already identified overseas postings for themselves in the event that their party wins the next general.

Where does the ordinary voter stand in this equation in spite of the gross posturing on the plight of the poor by Eversley and others?

An On The Spot Report From Barbados Parliament – Hardwood Housing Scandal, Non-Confidence Motion
    Jump to Comments
The following comment was posted a short time ago by BFP reader Wishing In Vain…

We have just seen an amazing event taking place in Barbados a few moments ago, the one Mottley who with her mouthings had all the talk about if Mr Thompson was not ready she was ready to address the HARDWOOD HOUSING issue via the PAC.

Then only moments ago with the knowledge that Mr Thompson was ready able and willing to move the motion, and after only 5 minutes in the sitting in the prelunch session they asked for an adjournment to discuss matters, they returned after lunch before doing any further business Mottley asked for an adjournment until Friday.

This is remarkable for a group with a 24 to 6 majority to be running hiding and avoiding the full force of the 6 members of the opposition is a revelation indeed.
Having said how ready both Mottley and Owing said they were proves to be just another lie one of many.

I wonder which aspect of the motion they fear the most the No Confidence Motion or is it the Defamation of Character act along with the moving of an act for Integrity of Legislation in Barbados.

Each one on its own is annoying to them but all of them together is a major upheaval, furthermore Owing sounded very course today he was under the weather or under the influence one or the other.

WIV you are obviously a boss LIAR. Every effort was and is being made to accomodate Tompee and his motion of no-confidence. The house met at 10.00 and was adjourned until 11.00 to give Tompee time to be ready he wasn’t. A bill lead by Dale Marshall was debated and concluded, Tompee still wasn’t ready. In fact let me tell you something Mr WIV the Liar, elections will come and go, Tompee and the DLP will lose and Tompee still won’t be ready with this bogus motion. But he is doing an excellent job at fooling you. Let’s see if he will run again on Friday.

Frankology I beg you to think about this for a minute, Mr Thompson read the motion he plans to lodge to the mass meeting on SUNDAY night this would clearly suggest that there is a clearly defined plan of action and readiness and that it is written and ready to proceed, I have heard mottley rumbling that if he does not she will lodge one, well I heard the one written by the DLP I have heard nothing coming from the blp so I am left to assume that the fear of having Mr Thompson being ready willing and able left them in a state of confusion and uncertainty hence their unwillingness to allow the sitting to continue.
The aborting of todays sitting was an amazing statement by the blp they talk the talk but falter when the chips are down.
We are also awiting serious debate about the massive cost overrun on the VECO built PRISON which started out at US $ 60 million and now is US $ 142 million this smells of corruption and dishonesty.

It appears that the mouthings by Mottley were just that a lot of hot air and no substance whatsoever.

Is there any truth to the rumour that as much as Mottley is designing her plan to unseat sscoll that Owen is designing his plan to unseat her?
What a tangled web we weave.

Tompee still won’t be ready with this bogus motion.
Such a silly as if you were not not so taken with your gross dishonesty you would have been the first to admit your error and concede that Mr Thompson lodged his motion earlier today, but then again you would not know the truth if it were to knock you flat on your behind, then again you support the liars that form the blp party of crooks and thieves.

    WIV

    Wuh Loss – Tom PEE

“Such a silly as if you were not not so taken with your gross dishonesty you would have been the first to admit your error and concede that Mr Thompson lodged his motion earlier today, but then again you would not know the truth if it were to knock you flat on your behind, then again you support the liars that form the blp party of crooks and thieves.”

WIV did you get the NEWS that the MOTION was NOT, repeat WAS NOT SIGNED? And you want Barbadians to take TOM pee serious? How incompetent can one joker get? Is this the kind of incompetent Loser that you want to run the country? What other important document would he “FORGET” to sign? What other important documents would he sign and FORGET? What other important documents would he have in his possession like the St. John Development Plan or the IMF document would he be unable to produce? Will you be able to see a copy of the share certificates he has in the BNB? What about his Sandy Lane Membership Forms .. Did he FORGET to sign them?

    Do you

SSC, you will never be in the House so you wouldn’t know that you only sign a motion AFTER the Speaker has approved it. The Speaker has sought to amend both motions and Thompson doesn’t agree. So he can’t sign them! Simple!

Ex MP , who has never been in the House, Seems to me that the speaker has approved the motion, but TOM PEE don’t want to debate.

Can you also address the question of the other signed or unsigned documents like the St. John Development plan and the IMF Document and the shares in BNB etc.

The Nation Newspaper reported the following:
“But an angry Thompson declined, taking umbrage with the fact that the Leader of the House was privy to his correspondence with the Speaker, and accused Government of “total incompetence” and degrading the standards of the House by meddling in a matter that was only between the Speaker and an individual MP.”
When I read this comment I could not help but laugh, and ask the question how serious could TOM PEE be?

    Let me emphasize

An angry Thompson took umbrage with the fact that the Leader of the House was privy to his correspondence with the speaker. Wasn’t it the same David TOM PEE Thomspon who started this whole issue with a PUBLIC LETTER to the Prime Minister, which was published in full in both newspapers? Now this hypocrite is accusing the Government of degrading the “standards of the House”.

Wasn’t it the said David TOM PEE who took the motion to the people’s parliament at a public meeting? And now he talking about the” standards of the House”.

What is total incompetence is the failure on TOM PEE to sign his own motion.

What is total incompetence is the failure of TOM PEE to convince even Chris Sinckler that he has a case against Mascoll.

What is total incompetence is the failure of TOM PEE to provide effective leadership to the DLP particularly after he went to great lengths to have himself named as the “Person to Lead the Party into the Next Elections”.

The higher the monkey climb … TOM PEE yuh PANTY showing
