Callers to the call-programme, “Tell It Like It Is” for Wednesday, October 24, 2007 would have heard the professionally disgraced Peter Wickham in his usual valiant defence of the politically embattled Leader of the Opposition delivered of himself comments than can only be described as comical. Wickham is now at pains to find that one thing which could explain why the electorate has remained disinterested in Thompson after all the political blood letting for which he Wickham invited the DLP to pursue and the eventual ousting of Mr. Clyde Mascoll.
Having accepted the results of his most recent poll which revealed that between 1994 to the present, Thompson’s popularity at the national level has grown by a pitiful 1% up from 27% in 1994 to 28% in 2007, he is now forced to ask himself what is wrong with Thompson? Wickham’s failure to accept that Barbadians do not trust Thompson and for good reasons has now been prompted to proffer his own reasons which border on absurdity.
To suggest that there is nothing wrong with Thompson and his political management style is absolutely absurd. Thompson’s entire political life is replete with actions and utterances that tell the grave and frightening story why he has remained, for Barbadians, that unpalatable and indigestible political pill to swallow. Thompson’s failure to provide the political and intellectual leadership that the DLP so desperately needs at this critical juncture, has denied this once formidable political beacon of its rightful place within the body politics of this country.
Further, Thompson’s blood-sport approach to politics has led to the continuing haemorrhaging of the natural constituents of the DLP resulting in a fracture and weakening of the Party’s political foundation. How could Wickham not see what is so transparently wrong with Thompson? Since the death of the Rt. Excellent Errol Barrow, the DLP has continued to suffer from a severe leadership defect.
That today, under Thompson, the DLP’s Afro (Black) support continues to fall while its Anglo (White) support spirals upwards is testimony of the extent to which the political make up of the DLP is changing. As shown in the last poll the BLP’s Afro (Black) support stood at 90% while its Anglo (White) support stood at 1.5%. Conversely the DLP’s Afro (Black) support stands at 87.0% while its Anglo (White) support stands at 2.2%. These statistics speak volumes and may well explain why the working class Barbadians, like Mr. Mascoll, Hamilton Lashley and others for whom Barrow built the DLP can no longer feel at home at George Street.
The current sorry state of the DLP must fall squarely on the shoulders of Thompson. While some may argue that leadership is born and not made, it is believed that he has been given more than enough time to develop the skills and intellect required to accomplish the task. That he can only muster a 28% rating while Prime Minister Arthur enjoys a comfortable 52% speaks more to his lack of political skills and intellect than anything else.
He simply does not have what it takes to lead the DLP. The sooner DLP members accept this fact and relieve themselves of this political excess the better off they will be. It is unlikely that Wickham will do little or nothing to help refocus the DLP away from its current path of self-destruction since he sees his interest best served under a Thompson led DLP.
Since Thompson and Wickham have already been condemned as bad political products any attempt to re-brand and resell them can be considered an act of fraudulent marketing.

Did Clyde Mascoll deliberately LIE to the public about the true state of the financial position of Hotels and Resorts Ltd?
Both under a Daily Nation article ‘GEMS GLOW’ published 17th September 2007 and a Down to Brass Tacks Sunday programme, Mr Mascoll intimated that the financial position of Hotels and Resorts Ltd was not as dire as projected.
Well, that certainly is not the impression that the article by Pat Hoyos and published in the 12th November 2007 edition of the Barbados Business Authority is indicating.
If Mr Mascoll is not deliberately misleading the public, then perhaps he can produce the audited accounts of Hotels and Resorts Ltd, for 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and shortly 2007.
Unless he is able to do this in a timely manner, then the public will be left to seriously doubt the credibility of any future utterings from him!

‘(Mr Mascoll) is a poltical stephney…. that is the reality that everybody in Barbados is stating. There is no conviction in anything
that Mr Mascoll says’.
Owen Arthur – 19 May 2003
‘A lot of people’s reputations have been savaged, My own reputation has been savaged and now the facts have to be told. I will ensure that the how, the what, the when and the why are made public’.
Owen Arthur reacting to infelicities in the GEMS project raised by Mascoll – 2 June 2003

Only because he dose not say and do what you want.
I am so tired of you telling lies about tourism it is not funny.
You know every time you say that tourism is down, I look though my window and see them in droves.
Thompson’s maid an error in judgement, he played his had too soon and it is going to cost him everything.
The public of Barbados want facts, this is just another Crime and violence, I know something it big. …. And then nothing.
I don’t know what your agenda is but it would be interesting to find out.

This evening was a most uplifting evening for me as I attended the launch meeting of Colin Spencer and listened to a series of excellent speeches by all of them and in particular Colin delivered a masterpiece a work of art in his presentation but the most reveal aspect of the evening was the playing of the video clip with an interview with Mottley where it was stated her effort to reduce the food import bill she was not eating and meat or chicken and that she was only eating conch very enlightening indeed.
To Adrian let me advise you that ASSCOLL has not been know for any truthful utterances for a long time now please do not expect him to change his spots and do so now!!

In an article printed under the headline ‘GEMS GLOW’ in the Daily Nation, 17th September, 2007, Clyde Mascoll gave the public the impression that Hotels and Resorts Ltd were in a manageable and improving financial position.
Likewise in a Down to Brass Tacks Sunday programme, this impression was projected.
Did Mr Mascoll deliberately LIE to the public?
Because, certainly from the article published in the Monday 12th November 2007, edition of the Barbados Business Authority by Pat Hoyos, no sensible person could draw this conclusion.
If Mr Mascoll is not lying, then he must be in possession of the Hotels and Resorts Ltd audited accounts for the periods PAST 2001, which are the latest to be laid in Parliament.
To retain any credibility, Mr Mascoll, should come forward with the audited GEMS accounts for 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and as soon as possible for 2007.
Otherwise, it will leave the public with absolutely no choice but to treat any future utterings from Mr Mascoll with a large pinch of salt.
Certainly, if it is voting for a motion of no-confidence, then he could not win on the subject of Hotels and Resorts Ltd.

No-Confidence Motion Looms; Current Leader Of The Opposition David Thompson To Face Off Against The Former Leader Of The Opposition And Current Minister Of State, Clyde Mascoll
November 7th, 2007 · 35 Comments
Minister of State Clyde Mascoll – In the background is director of Hardwood Housing Factory Inc., Anthony Murrell, Leader of the Opposition David Thompson and Prime Minister Owen Arthur
Prime Minister Owen Arthur at the nomination of Clyde Mascoll to run in St. Michael North West in the next General Election, last weekend at the Ellerslie Secondary School, sent a loud message to Leader of the Opposition David Thompson. The message in summary was for Thompson to ‘bring on’ the no confidence motion in Clyde Mascoll which he issued at a political meeting in Deacons on October 14, 2007 – read our story. In another BU story we introduced the idea that Thompson and his Opposition should have used the parliamentary motion of no-confidence in the government as a strategy to strengthen its perception in the public eye of an Opposition Party doing its job. Contrary to a widely held view, a motion of no-confidence maybe brought not only to defeat but to embarrass a government. Unfortunately we have held the view for sometime now that David Thompson has blundered by not using this parliamentary procedure to good effect.
Some of you may disagree with BU and cite the feeble attempt by the former Leader of the Opposition Clyde Mascoll when he brought a motion of no-confidence of his own against Prime Minister Owen Arthur. Did you really forget the St. Peter Affair? In 12 days Thompson will have to deliver on his promise of tabling a motion of no-confidence in Mascoll. Don’t be surprise if the government attempts to nullify or frustrate Thompson’s motion of no-confidence by a counter of its own. It is our opinion that there is real animosity between the two former schoolmates who attended the fabled Combermere Secondary School. The Barbados Labour Party and Democratic Labour Party, if they are not smart, could become sidetracked with this sub-plot. If this were to happen the DEMS would be the loser.
We have alluded in previous postings that Thompson’s political future rests on a positive outcome to the motion of no-confidence. Remember he does not have to win the motion, its effect will be seen in the parliamentary privilege which Thompson will enjoy to say what he damn well pleases. Expect this encounter to get nasty for three reasons:
For David Thompson this is a must win if he is to turn around the public perception of ‘loser’ and ascend to the highest political office. The next election may be won on the economic issues but leadership will be high on the list
For Clyde Mascoll he needs to shake the credibility and integrity issues which have surfaced as a result of his unprecedented move from Leader of the Opposition to a Minister in Government quicker than Flash Gordon (we have discounted the brief period he sat in parliament as an independent)
Prime Minister Owen Arthur is fully aware that the political stock of his party is linked to Mascoll who must be untainted by any impropriety

Do you think that Mascoll is in possession of any audited statements for GEMS? I don’t. There are none. Another big foot move by Mascoll, don’t you think?
