BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY

Thompson Unbelievable

October 18, 2007 · 26 Comments

From the depth of our hearts, the family of the Barbados Labour Party would like to thank the people of Barbados for their continuing support for Prime Minister Arthur and his BLP government. We pride ourselves not as a government that is perfect but a government that is willing to listen to the people, learn from and correct our mistakes and to say sorry when the cause arises. One of the hallmarks of our Prime Minister is that he has always admonished his Ministers that any time they are confronted with a problem within their ministry “they should face it and fix it”.

You and I know that anything that can go wrong will go wrong according to one of our most noted philosophers. In the same way that a teacher will never have absolute control of every student in their class so too will a Minister never have absolute control of every member of staff of the Ministry. However, we accept that a teacher is ultimately responsible for the students under their watch as the Minister is responsible for his Ministry, Essentially the point that we wish to make is this. The results of the recent poll have demonstrated the level of confidence that the people of Barbados continues to repose in the government.

This must be attributed to the prudent and skillful management of Prime Minister Arthur. At the same time, the results have shown a high degree of distrust towards the Opposition DLP which must be seen as the absolute lack of confidence in the Opposition Leader.  Since the return of Thompson, the DLP has led a campaign of corruption against the government. Every policy initiative and programme undertaken by this government has been met with the charge of corruption by the DLP. They have succeeded in garnishing the support of the moderators on the call-in programmes, the Nation Newspaper and its columnist Wickham, Hartley and Eversley.

They have even set up two blogs, the Barbados Free Press and the Barbados Underground and yet they continue to fail in their attempt to impress the electorate. So with “all the king’s horses and all the king’s men they could not put humpty dumpty back together again”.  But why with all this support has Thompson continues to flounder? We contend that the “Believability Factor” is at the heart of Thompson’s political failings. When you start wrong you can only end wrong. Those of us with good parental guidance can recall being taught that when you start with a lie you can only end with a lie. No one in their right mind would invest their life’s savings and valuables in the hands of anyone who is known to be a stranger of the truth.  A wife’s worst nightmare is a lying husband.

A country’s worst dream is to wake up and find its highest office occupied by a person whose spoken word cannot be trusted. Thompson would do well to use the results of the last poll to conduct an introspection of himself. It maybe too late for him to undergo any meaningful change of character that will effectively alter his perception in the public’s mind but he may be able to determine in which capacity other than politics he may be best able to serve his family and friends.

Thompson’s somersault on the Harwood issue is unbelievable. Does he really want to investigate wrong doings? Many Barbadians are not aware that the AUDITED FINACIAL statements of GEMS have been late in the House for some time now and Thompson would have seen them yet he has not call for an investigation. Why?

Flyovers In Barbados Revisited~Barbados Association Of Professional Engineers (BAPE) Stick To Their Guns
    October 18th, 2007 · 31 Comments

Barbados Underground (BU) congratulate the Barbados Association of Professional Engineers (BAPE) for sticking to their previous demands made to the government of Barbados and 3S Barbados SRL, the company contracted to build the flyovers, to provide them with the opportunity to clarify some technical questions concerning aspects of the flyover project. BAPE’s position gives lie to the accusation leveled by Richard Sealy MP at the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) meeting in Deacons Road on Sunday night, when he accused BAPE of being a timid organization “devoid of a spine” which is made-up of people who are scared for their jobs.

We have written exhaustively on the issue of Operation Free Flow, better known as the flyover project. We have read hundreds of comments posted to the several flyover topics we have posted on BU and also on BFP. Although many of the comments provide a true insight how ordinary Barbadians feel about the project, several of the comments continue to demonstrate a refusal to separate the issues. It is apparent to BU that several of our frequent commenters have misrepresented the issue of the flyovers by blurring the tender procurement process of the Barbados government and the benefits of this project in terms of relieving traffic congestion. We are fortunate to have sources who have provided information which is not in the public domain; however to protect our sources we are sometimes restricted as to what we can publish.

Many of the BU articles on this topic have focussed on the lack of a policy framework which has affected the flyover project. It is necessary if Barbadians want to sensibly debate the issue of this project project we must not let partisan political views to derail the debate. We recognize that there has been voluminous information which has been printed about the flyover project so we decided to list what we think are the pertinent points which Barbadians MUST seek to clarify from our government:

The 3S Barbados SRL April 2006 Operation Free Flow drawings must be made public. We know from people who have seen the drawing that as early as 2006 the plan was to widen the ABC Highway to 4 lanes throughout, including the section of the ABC Highway South of Life of Barbados roundabout.

Our investigation shows that the cost of the flyover project from mid-2006 was BDS140 million. We want to know what was the approval process that saw the cost of the project increased to BDS280 million (if we listen to Clyde Mascoll) or BDS360 million (if we listen to George Siddall of 3S Barbados SRL). In fact the government needs to tell Barbadians what was the tendering process for the whole damn flyover project!
According to a recent Hillis-Carnes press release- the engineering firm contracted by 3S Barbados to do geo-technical research – they collected core sample from 100 test holes along the ABC Highway in 2006-2007. The cost of Operation Free Flow was made public in mid-2006 with a figure of BDS140 million being tossed about. Also was the cost to perform the geo-technical research by Hillis-Carnes included in the original figure of BDS140 million dollars?

Why wasn’t the geo-technical work done before the project was mobilized given that the results could have seriously impacted on the design and scope the original project plan? Our sources have always confirmed that the jersey barriers and the makeover of the ‘Bermuda triangle’ was included in the 3S April 2006 drawings. The talk about an increase in the scope of works is therefore a LIE and Clyde Mascoll needs to explain this lie because it seems that he has been given the role of government’s spin doctor on the contentious projects!

There are several other issues that we can question but we believe that the four outlined above provide fodder for discussion concerning how the tender and procurement process was engaged by the Barbados government and the subsequent management of issues which followed.

This poll should be even more entertaining than the last one when they ask Are you satisfied with the explanation given by Minister Clyde Mascoll regarding his involvement in Hardwood Factory Housing Incorporated?
It would amazing to see if the idiot manges one vote then again at least TONY HOYOS and MR SEE THRU will vote for him remember MR SEE THRU brought him in to displace Mottley and he is doing that job at present, then someone will replace him next before elections.
Mr SEE THRU is making every effort to make sure that he has no challengers for his position that explains why he has Mottley eating ( really eating not biting ) humble pie!!!!
I can’t get a word out of it , it is as quiet as church mouse!!!!

This is the same person that can sing the praises of the QEH on a political platform but then he finds that it is not good enought for him to attend when he gets sick, what does that tell the rest of us ?
Still away from the place that is somewhere you got to be dying to go to.
We have good docotrs here like Jerry Emtage and Dr Padmore why would he be scared to go to the QEH ?
I am amazed that no one on this blog has mentioned as yet that Kerrie Simmons brother went parking out and the fellows that attacked them raped both the woman and the brother in the car, amaging how quiet these things pass, I head this about a month ago and was waiting to see if it made it to the blog.
Seems to me that Kerrie Simmons has a few issues what his brother and girlfriend being raped and he Kerrie arriving at peoples houses at ungodly hours of the night looking for his wife is an amazing story indeed, lucky he did not find her in Owings house like Sherwin Campbell did, that is how Owing destroyed Sherwin’s cricketing hopes because he could not play cricket and keep his mind on cricket he always had to be wondering if Owing was in his house with his wife.

You know what I find encouraging and I have said it before on the DLP BLOG. Out of most evil some good comes from it.

What better and more qualified source could the people have than BAPE in asking questions and speaking out about the Flyovers. These folk are “Professionals” and they spent a lot of time and money becoming qualified in their respective professions.

Yet here they are in Barbados because of Political foot dragging by politicians of all stripes being disgraced by not having to be involved in key decisions, supervision and consultation when it comes to major construction projects. And because of this are now seeing things like the Brittons Hill tragedy and these other controversial projects fraught with inherent problems down the road, which have the potential to taint their good name and profession.

In this case (Flyovers) they have hit the ground running and are saying our profession is not going to be tainted with another tragedy and with complacency in seeing other projects cut corners. I say good for them!

With all of the MAJOR Development going on in Barbados like Flyovers, the Four Seasons Pagoda, Condo complexes, golf courses, business complexes etc. The public of Barbados need to know that Engineers, Building Codes, Material Standards codes et al are firmly in place to gurantee that these structures are being built in the safest manner. Not only for and in the best interests of Barbadians but Visitors too who come to destinations like Barbados on the premise and advertised as having quality and SAFE accommodation and infrastructure.

No Name , Frankology , Wishing in Vain…….I empathise with you all.

But let us all face it……… a CORRUPT regime like this BLP one will NEVER admit to it’s INFELICITIES.

Furthermore, even when the weight of the eveidence is in the public domain……this BLP regime can ALWAYS be counted on to adopt deflective tactics.

The last ” People Business ” episode on Sunday 14th October 2007 was a case in point !

How was it possible in a technological advanced Barbados of 2007………with so many issues of Squandermania & Financial Extravagance SWIRLING around in the public domain……and Owen Arthur can appear on a LIVE national television programme…….and not one member of the public given an opportunity to question him……?

Was this not an opportune time to resume the long – awaited ” Conversation with the Nation(als) “….Owen Arthur…..?

All Barbadians were subjected to during that WASTED 2 hours was a pot of PALAVER from a DRUNKARD…….and a JOURNALIST who has been the beneficiary of government funds of $ 10,000.00 in 2000 from the Higher Education section of the Ministry of Education !

These funds were given as a GRANT ( by the then Minister of Education Mia Mottley) to assist Peter Thorne with financing a journalistic course of study.

Anyone who get close enough to Peter Thorne ask him which course of study he pursued…..or were this funds ” pay back ” for his journalistic efforts to destroy the DLP during the 1999 General Elections….?

That is how this BAREFACED LAMPOON PARTY ( BLP )……operates….!

If the Prime Minister of Barbados has the FACTS about these controversies is it not incumbent on him to put rumour, innuendo etc about corruption to rest? Why is this not being done?
Maybe just maybe it is all very true it is very hard question the truth.
So to the Hardwood Holdings issue everyting that Mr Thompson presented was factual and hard evidence how does one avoid facing the facts.

  • Drunk and Womaniser Arthur // October 19, 2007 at 2:24 am | Reply

Frank great post, well articulated and obviously well thought out.

I am not as informed as you I merely cut to the chase about what evidently is bothering Barbadians as it should and to which they are getting no answers.

When a contract is put out by Government to tender and bids are received it is usually no big deal to share information with the people because after all they are the ones paying. When a contractor is decided on and work start the people need to be kept informed about MAJOR overruns or significant changes that are causing serious overruns. Transparency and communication avoids specualation about corruption!

That is the salient and important issue here. Why is this Government not coming clean. Why is this Government having all kinds of yardfowl Ministers going on the public record and saying nothing?

If the Prime Minister of Barbados has the FACTS about these controversies is it not incumbent on him to put rumour, innuendo etc about corruption to rest? Why is this not being done? And especially when it is alleged that most if not all Government contracts past and present seem to be all tainted with escalating costs over and above the original cost?

  • Thinking this thru // October 19, 2007 at 2:24 am | Reply

In all my posts on either BFP or BU, I ensure that I publish documented facts relating to the sequence of events with the Highway Expansion Project. These are the

Back in March 2005 during the award of the contract, the Minister announced in the House of Assembly that eight flyovers will be constructed, widening of the road will be from Warrens to Norman Niles roundabout and the synchronisation of traffic lights (see March 16, 2005 Nation) will total US$60 million. This is the first confirmed statement.

During the Barbados Labour Party Annual General Conference in September 2005, Mr. George Siddall the Project Manager with 3S Barbados made a presentation where he stated the contract for the highway consist of widening the highway from Warrens to Garfield Sobers roundabouts and the building of eight flyovers with two overpasses costing Bds 120 million. This is the first confirmed scope of work.

The actual start of the highway commenced July 22, 2006 and Hon. Glyne Clarke announced an additional US$20 million to the original quote. We heard of six flyovers to be constructed. We also heard of 3S Barbados SRL having overall responsibility for the execution of the project. This is the new scope of work.

August 26, 2007, the public heard from Mr. George Siddall, the same Project Manager of 3S announced the tripling of cost. It is a known fact that the widening will be from Warrens to Garfield Sobers roundabout (the same cost), we know that the flyovers will be six instead of eight (should be less cost); we know of two overpass. We heard no mention of any Jersey Barriers. We know that these Jersey Barriers cost around Bds$2,000.00 with 400 of these on the highway costing around Bds$800,000.00. How would these new scope of work total Bds240 million?

I refuse to comment on the Honourable Clyde Mascoll explanation of a new scope of work. Maybe, we might be having flyovers in the greater Bridgetown areas as a surprise since things are done without any Impact Studies or Assessment submitted.

In the area of the Geotechnical research by Hillis-Carnes Engineering, we would like to know why the first statement from this company state of fractured and decomposed state of our limestones. Remember Stantec knowing the negatives of the Greenland Landfill still submit a study for the same landfill.

Here is my final submission. Where are the plans for the highway – will we see them at the meeting. Where is the Impact Assessment Study that should have been submitted before the commencement of any flyover? When will we know of the locations and amount of overpasses that you plan to build? Please give the public a breakdown of the new scope of work.

I will not back off until the public is sensitized with answers regarding this highway and the silence of the Government and Opposition. $360 million ain’t easy to come by.

A WISHFULL THINKING VOTER WHO WANTS A CHANGE FOR HONESTY IN GOV”T IS THERE SUCH A THING WITHIN THE BLP // Oct 18th 2007 at 11:54 am

As was posted on the BLP website trust you will give me room to post on yours as well.

WOW this site is almost as hot as BFP and BU.
I never thought that I would have seen views that are so anti gov’t on this site as they are.
Is this just me being silly or are these cries indicative of the real issues in our island?
What about this talk about corruption and dishonesty in Gov’t it seems to have some grounds for discussion as there seems to be a massive amount of money being overspent in every project that this gov’t has undertaken in the last five years each one seems to have suffered the same fate money being thrown at it with simply no accounting for these mega funding.
Is there any truth to this story making the rounds that you Mr Arthur , Nicholls and Bannister held the countries builders to ransom by requesting a 7 % commission to be paid to you all for the awarding of the contract? I have this on good authority of a lawyer that this is the case if so you should all be ashamed of yourselves.
This Road works contract why have you chosen to award it to a proven and known crook in ythe form of DANOS it is not a doubt but rather a know fact that he is guilty of fraud in operations in Jamaica in something called the Jamaica Kickback Agreement do we have a BARBADOS KICKBACK AGREEMENT in place here as well for you three to benefit from Mr Arthur?
Why in both these massively awarded contracts are two companies that are before the law courcts in the two countries of their birth for charges ranging from corruption, fraud and bribery things that are all to familiar to you Mr Arthur and your gang of goons.
Wealso understand that the West Coast Sewage Treatment project is held up because of yet another request for yet another commission payment to You Mr Arthur , Bannister and Nicholls should this be the case it is a disgrace to the Barbadian people to have work being delayed while you all fight for commissions.
On the subject of fighting Mr Arthur please ease up on Mottley before you drive into another biting frenzy, you really already scorned her by saying that ASSCOLL is behind you in the pecking order, if Mottley had an ounce of sense or decency she would put you out to dry and let you see how much help ASSCOLL would be to you, once she put you out to dry I would sit out the next election and return as leader of the BLP in your absence and lead the party to victory single handed.
On the subject of ASSCOLL funny things are obviously taking place at HARDWOOD HOLDINGS and you seem powerless to do anything about them does this have anything to do with your own involvement and your own level of corruption ?
We shall await your statement of intent to arrest the corruption and dishonesty of this Gov’t and put those behind bars that have stolen from us even if that includes you Mr Arthur we need things done to save this country from falling further into the mire and hell than it already is in.

What period does the audited financial statement for GEMS (Hotels and Resorts Ltd)cover?

Are they up-to-date for the last financial period?

And WHEN are they going to be printed in the press for EVERY taxpayer (shareholder) to see them ?

  • CORRUPTION AT ITS FINEST // October 19, 2007 at 12:25 pm | Reply

While we are it and on the subject of Hardwood Holdings, I have a few riddles I would like to pose lets start, why is it that the Guyanese workers employed at this company are being paid more than their Barbadian counterparts?
Why has the Manager only been charged with abuse of two of the three women?
Why would he fire these same ones that he molested only to have them bring the union and Sir Leroy Trotman into the action to have them reinstated?
Was it Sir Leroy that first alerted the Commissioner of Police about this abuse of power and position within the company and was he only charged after the leader of the opposition applied pressure to the point that the force would have appeared to be failing in their duty had they continued to refuse to act?
What are the interconnecting relationships of Mark Shorey, Mariano Browne, Clyde Mascoll,Owing’s cheque for $ 750,000.00, Tony Hoyos and Hardwood holdings?
More to follow on this scene it is not nice either!!!
Why does a carpenter assume the role of Managing director in the absence of Clyde Mascoll is he a blue eyed boy of Mascoll?
Who owns the equipment that the gov’t provided the taxpayers funding for I am sure it is not vested in Hardwood Holdings!!
Is it true that Clyde Mascoll is the defacto Managing Director of Hardwood Holdings and is only cashing in on his allocation given to him by Owing for his crossing the floor?
How is it that this company can be granted this level of financing and in such haste without the assistance and coordination of those at a very high level within the gov’t structure?
Are some of these same directors of Hardwood Holding now advising Barbadians about shares and the deal with BS and T etc?
Why would this story have been cancelled from being aired on CBC with one telephone call from Mr Hoyos, who just so happens to sit on both boards that is the CBC board and Hardwood Holdings board?
Like everything else going on in Barbados at this time this smells of gross corruption and dishonest acts.
One other quiz for you who is the head of the Enterprise Growth Fund and what is their connection to Hardwood Holdings ???????

    http://egfl.bb/aboutus.htm

Start to put this picture together folks, Mariano Browne, was the Managing Director at the Bank from which Owing’s $ 750,000.00 cheque was written, Mark Shorey was the Chairman.
Mariano Browne has been charged and is before the courts for illegal behaviour in relation to his action while at this same bank.
However he has been given the post of Chairman of the Enterprise Growth Fund despite his pending court action for illegal activities.
Also to notice that a Anthony Hoyos also sits on this board of directors of the Enterprise Growth Fund Limited and just happens to sit on the board of the company Hardwood Holdings here we have a director sitting on the lending board seeing after these grants to his company the receiver of these said funds, does this not beg the question where are his morals actually were are any of their morals?

    Profile of Directors
    Name Position
    Mariano R. Browne Chairman
    Peter J. Miller Deputy Chairman
    Marjorie P. Downes-Grant
    Jefferson O. Reeves
    John A. F. Cole
    Almroth A. E. Williams
    Stephen E. Emtage
    Edward H. C. Griffith
    Anthony Hoyos

To the idiot using my name let me say to you that it takes a special kind to rumble the way I do. Let me show you how…

Who remembers the headline in the Nation Newspaper when the political waste thompson came out of the political wilderness. It read words to the effect that the next general election in Barbados will be the “mother of all battles” a “battle royale”.

From the results of the last poll it is looking more to be a “battle for the little brown girl in the ring” to borrow Harold Hoyte’s words. The BLP certainly want her head and from the look of things in the DLP Estwick wants his head as well.

Estwick has not forgiven him for contriving with the committee of management to get him out of St. Philip West.

Freundel Stuart has not forgiven him for undermining him in St. Philip South during the 1999 elections. Stuart often refers to the time when he confronted thompson about the nasty things that he was walking around saying about him. When he raised the matter face to face with thompson he denied it. However, when Stuart produced the cassette recording of his voiced bad-mouthing him all thompson could do is bend over and cried in a loud voice, “oh Stuart you know I try to be honest but I have failed, please forgive me”.

Undene Whittaker has not forgiven him for saying of her that she was neither “presentable nor marketable”.

Michael Lashley has not forgiven him for nearly costing him the opportunity to be in the House today because thompson did not think he was good enough to represent the people of St. Philip North.

Rice-Bowen does not want to him since the two of them hold up their clothes at each other and she had to inform him that her undies were cleaner than his undies.

Lowe has refused to be seen with the man known as “sweet cakes” a name given to him by none other than Cameron Tudor, who would most definitely know went a cake is sweet.

On the 17th September 2007, a story was carried in the Nation under the headline ‘GEMS GLOW’, where the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance portrayed what can only be described as an exceptionally optimistic fiscal picture of Hotels and Resorts Ltd.

One particular verbatim quote especially caught my attention ‘ According to Mascoll, land and property values have increased to the extent that tourism properties are now worth even more than tourism as an entity in itself ‘.
Quite suprising as the PM personally waived the property transfer tax on the sale of Silver Rock.
Why discount the value, if they are worth so much?

If, as stated the audited accounts from the period after 2001 for Hotels and Resorts Ltd have NOT been laid in Parliament, how could Mr Mascoll speak with any authority before knowing what other liabilities the company has above the ‘Government’s $145 million investment’ he quoted?

We know that the Chairman of Hotels and Resorts Ltd is a qualified accountant, so what possibly could be the reason for not submitting the audited accounts past 2001?

Is there no law that commands Government (taxpayer) owned companies to submit their audited accounts in a timely manner?

Mr Mascoll should also consider any remaining credibility he may have.
Speaking on the recently highlighted Hardwood Housing Factory Inc, issue after previously stating
‘What better track-record could the company want that someone (Anthony Murrell) who supervised the building of 500 houses in Grenada in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan’.
Only days later to dismiss this statement with ‘on the issue of whether he built 500 houses in Grenada or not was neither here of there’.

I have approached the Government agency in Grenada responsible for the construction and supervision of houses following Ivan and hopefully we will ALL soon have evidence that confirms Mr Mascoll’s earlier assurances.

Meanwhile, Mr Mascoll, perhaps you could produce the audited accounts for HRL for 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and soon as possible 2007, then we as taxpayers can also ‘GLOW’ with your optimism.

Tell us about that cheque that was written to OWING for $ 750,000.00, or we want to hear about the tripling of cost of the road works project, tell us about the obviously corrupt DANOS and his KICKBACK AGREEMENTS and FRAUD CASE in the courts in the UK or tell us about court case of VECO in Alaska where people have been found guilty of committing bribery and fraud and politicians collecting money from VECO for favours, these are the same ones that our gov’t awarded the contracts to for these major projects, do you not to suspect that these fraudsters would perform any different from they have been used to behaving?
Or what about the mass of issues involved in HARDWOOD HOLDINGS and the obvious corruption that is taking place there, and how in heavens name can we have TONY HOYOS sitting on the board of both the lending agency and as chairman of the borrower company why would this be the case???
Your support for the unsupportable is dumbfounding to say the least, you need to awake and open your eyes and see the corruption that your party is partaking of on a daily basis

It is with profound disdain for you and your type, Yellow Belly Racist Loveridge that I have broken my self-imposed mandate never to ever respond to anything that you say on any of these blogs. I have no regards, respect or time for you.

You have been proven time and time again to be nothing more than just an idiot. Only the driftwoods in the new DLP would have accommodation for you. How a black conscience man like Freundel Stuart can tolerate you as an advisor to that party is beyond comprehension. In fact I see and understand why the Rt. Excellent Errol Barrow said that he would like to put all you yellow belly dogs on the Lord Combermere and set you adrift on the sea.

Through the Public Investment Fund the audited financial statements of Gems has been laid in Parliament. I do not care if you believe that or not. Quite frankly you should go and look for your friends in the ku klux klan and leave this country.

Barrow must be turning in his grave that this country’s biggest drug and arms dealer thompson could draft something like you into his party. Maybe it is because you both born the same place feel the same way about black people. That you are here in this country sponging off the taxes of my black brothers and sisters makes my stomach sick. You can not help thompson and the polls show it. So maybe after the next general election you can introduce him to your gang leader and maybe the two of you can become the prime minister and deputy prime minister of the ku klux klan for the Caribbean.

Now fellows you all have been pushing this corruption thing for some time now. Two opinion polls have shown that it has not been working. When will you idiots decide to take up Harold Hoyte on his recommendation in the Sunday Sun of October 21, 2007? Hoyte has suggested that you “rebrand” thompson to make him palatable to the Barbadian electorate.

But Hoyte’s suggestion will be a very difficult task because with a limited intellect thompson will fail in his attempt to bring himself to deal effectively with the heavy international issues that now permeate the international arena. What does thompson know about this country’s trade policies and the much talk about EPAs that this country is involved with many of the industrialised and developed economies around the world?

Where does thompson see Barbados within the global economy and what policies does he intend to pursue with respect to the real challenge that capital poses to labour in the 21st century and the impact of rising inflation both international and locally and its impact on working class in developing societies like ours and many other major issues.

To talk corruption is easy and requires very little intellectual effort and this is why thompson has chosen this avenue. But he is failing in his pursuit simply because he is seen as the corrupt one and the electorate is convinced that he can not correct any wrongs in this sphere.

thompson’s declaration in the Nation News today that “he will not lie, cheat or steal to get to the top in Barbados” is really a laughable comment. The truth is that the electorate is convinced that thompson is a lying, cheating and stealing English born brute. thompson is a millionaire yet he has never had any outstanding jobs in this country to explain where he got his wealth. He is no lawyer of any repute. In fact no one has ever heard of a case that he has won, criminal or other wise.

thompson’s declaration in today’s Nation can only been seen as a real self-confession. What he needs to do now is to beg for forgiveness and see if the public is willing to forgive him. But if they are willing to forgive him for lying, cheating and stealing what are they going to do with him for the part he played in disrupting the lives of over 3,000. public servants in the early 1990’s and then boast that “the only thing a bailiff can ask him is the time of the day”. And what about the $150,000 given to him by a well known lawyer and supporter of the party which was to be divided equally among the candidates in the 1999 election and he kept all for himself.
