BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY

Nomination Postponed

August 27, 2006 · 21 Comments

The nomination to select a candidate for the St.George South constituency was postponed today to give the candidates enough time to efficiently and effectively canvass all of the members on the final list. This was agreed by all the candidates at a meeting this morning.

This is in keeping with the philosophy and policies of the party as it strives to have complete transparency in the nomination process.

We will reschedule the nomination for three weeks time at the same venue St. George Secondary.

Since when did we start using national electoral lists for branch nominations?

I have wondered for a long time how come the BLP can get 700 people to come out and vote at a branch nomination. It matters not if you are a member! You just have to be on the list of voters in the constituency!

Willie, I need you to explain how requesting a list from electoral commission outside of normal pubblication to find out names of Bees is accomplished. Willie the electoral commission can tell me who is a Bee?

Something smelly here! Must be the bullshit True Blue talking about.

Wuh i can clearly remember viewing such a list of voters in Ronald Jones constituentcy on his now defunc http://www.POLITICSBARBADOS.COM site. :D Got to see if i did save a copy.

There are people who have been members of BLP who have moved into the constituency of Christ Church West. those people would not be on the January list but would have transferred to that constituency and thus be elligible to vote in the nomination.

With respect to the numbers there are hundreds or members in al most every branch of the party. Just a week ago the Dems were happy with 600 people at a conference for 30 constituencies, when the nomination in one constituency which was not even contested had over 300 people.

The EBC can not tell you who is a B but they can tell you who has applied for a transfer and moved into that constituency.

Again, what is Adrian’s point? What does the electoral list have to do with who is B and who is D?

  • Adrian // August 30, 2006 at 1:43 pm | Reply

Oh nothing TB it has nothing to do with determining who is a B and a D, but the first part of your sentence place some sugestive emphasis on obtaining a list outside of NORMAL PUBLICATION whatever that is. Such a list was publish on the internet by Ronald Jones, i see nothing wrong with it but would you concider that NORMAL PUBLICATION? :D

Adrian you don’t live bout here (so you say), so you really should keep out of this topic.

The EBC has specific times to publish lists. I think they only do it on January 31st every year. They also used to publish a monthly list, but this has been discontinued.

I wanted to find out from Willie (he was pon my TV, which you received in the USA- it seems) if you can call up the EBC and get an up-to date list anytime. I also wanted to know if the BLP use branch membership lists to conduct their nominations or they allow anyone living in the constituency that feel like voting to do so. That is where the national list would come in.

I know nuff people who get cards and letters from the BLP telling them to come and vote (in nominations) and they never went near Roebuck Street or join the party.

So Willie tell me what is this all about. 60 additional people you say, who they must go and see, out of a voting pop in St. George South of over 8 thousand??!!!!

Come on man! Willie you are an honourable man. Don’t let Owen mek you lie pun my TV.

Wait whey my naval string bury don’t count for anything anymore? Oh just send my remittance but don’t comment on anything bout there? Sorry Robert, you aint Mugabe and this aint his fifedom. :D

….and I aint staying out because i don’t know wuh um is yuh talking bout, how else am i going to learn?

    So educate me please.

Are suggesting that there something aggregious in allowing non party members to vote in a party nominations process? What is it exactly that you are hinting at and complaining about? All the persons involved (candidates) seems to be on the same page, what exactly is your beef?

BTW: I watch CBC evening news everynight on my PC. If there is any dispute in what Duguid or any of the candidates said in that broadcast i can produce the clip for you to review. :D

http://www.cbc.bb with a broadband internet connection it is like watching it as you do.

Still people seem not to understand.
People who are members and who are on the voters list for that constituency are able to vote in the nomination only.

There are some people who are members and have recently tranferred into the constituency and have been added to the list. These people are hence able to vote in the nomination. They were added late and thus the nomination was postponed to enable the candidates to canvvass these additions to the list.
i can not put it any simpler Robert.

The controversy about the St. George South nomination had nothing to do with the voters list. It had all to do with who OH When wanted. I listened and cackled when I heard each person at the press conference deny that the hastily called Sunday meeting was to ask someone to withdraw. It was a crafty move, but still clumsy. Unfortunately our dense media persons just aint got the skills.
The men were telling the truth. There was no discussion of withdrawal at the meeting. The question of withdrawal occureed BEFORE the meeting.
Cupid Gill had motorcade and big campaign activity in St. George South on Saturday. He clearly went all out and in the process eclipsed his competition. By Saturday night he was being asked to withdraw. He refused. So the red herring of the list came in.
A clever posing of specific questions to feret out the truth would have been apt.
So the three denied there was an approach at the meeting, and some denied approaches at all. Note that Cupid Gill never once said “I was never asked to withdraw.” He said : “The meeting on Sunday was to discuss the voters list.” Check wunna recordings.
It is national knowledge that Oh When wants Lashley. But like Duguid, Gill nah leggo. Once they do not tamper with the list and employ nasty tactics, HE WILL STILL WIN.
Oh When’s dictatorial qualities are not humbling this new breed of politician.

Willie you are an honourable man and I believe you. I believe that is what you were told to say.

I called the EBC for the same list to give Dr. Byer Suckoo from the DLP and I can’t get one. Not even to buy! She needs to check this list carefully to see who is all these new people since January. There is a lot of talk in town about padding list with Guyanese.

Alright Willie, you say you have to be a BLP member to vote. OK Willie, we will see when the time comes. Tell the four don’t come back at my house. I am a DEM and I will not be coming to vote for neither one.

Tell me how to get the list and I will stop asking questions.

  • william duguid // August 30, 2006 at 5:36 pm | Reply

EBC should have the list of all constituents in the constituency available for sale.
I am surprised you were unable to get it you have to wait till they periodically print them.

Cat eyes I know you right. They passed in front my house keeping nuff noise Saturday.

The ting is, the DJ fellow Cupid is the most popular.

Gregory Nicholls the Senator withdraw from the competition because he said he was a Senator and he en going up against no DJ. he wanted Oh When to ask all of the rest to withdraw and let him run. The short man said no to dat. The youngster Nicholls real stuffed up wid heself.

OH When (I like dat) saying the same thing. He en want no DJ. But de fellow outfront in the race. I know, I live bout here. He can’t beat the Doctor though, so the Bees trying to get three of the jokers in the pack to pull back.

Take it from me Loius don’t want neider one of them. Look sharp he may campaign for the Doc.

I was making little sport with Willie and the list. He can’t tell me how to get one.

  • Adrian // August 30, 2006 at 6:33 pm | Reply

Thanks Robert. Tuh tell yuh de truth Cupid din look to happy, and Cupid is my friend, DJ or not, he is a university graduate and has the appeal that makes him like Cinty Forde the kind of person i would want to agitate on my behalf in the peoples house. Gregory Nicholls can remain a Senator and become a minister, people like him have little interest in representing people, they shouldn’t fool the people by having them vote for them, only to abandon them like Simmonds David, Simmonds, Kerrie etc. I got people bout up in dey and will be making some calls. :D

Tell Owen to stop foistering these elitist individuals on the people. People vote for representation of their local needs, and these individuals know very well that they have no interest in representing the people, but clear ambitions on getting a Ministry and running bout de world but never once in their constituency. Tell Owen he has 12 positions in the Senate that he can use to fill his ministries.

People of St. George South Greg Nicholls don’t what it is to be a representative, has no intent on be your representative don’t be fool. Oh and BTW neither does the Dr. Byer :D if she can’t secure a simple list she may not be able to secure much anything for you. :D

  • Adrian // August 30, 2006 at 6:37 pm | Reply

Robert, do you have any proof that Greg Nicholls said ” He aint running against nuh DJ”? if you can prove this for me i will have to nominate him for the Negrocrat of the year award, only Barbadians will make such statement, and he aint nuh Bajan. :D

  • cat eyes // August 30, 2006 at 7:29 pm | Reply

Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo will polish the floor with any candidate they send in St.G South. Ask Louis Tull.

  • Velzo // August 30, 2006 at 8:21 pm | Reply

This whole episode makes me very uneasy. I can now see what is happening and what the BLP does with theselists. Interesting.

    Barbadians beware.

Adrian, maybe your remittances are not needed now they getting Millions from the Offshore Investors. Was a time when us “overseas Bajans” were complimented for sending back to the motherland and spending our hard earned money “in de land”.

I will disagree with you on anything except your right to participate in everything Barbados even if you moved to Siberia.

A Born Bajan is a Bajan forever even if “he doan live bout here”.

    Doan ease up.

Adrian, call from where ever you are and ask for an electoral list for St. Geroge South at the end of July or August 2006. The number is 246-427-2775. Do not put on your yankee twang or accent.

  • ADRIAN // August 31, 2006 at 1:06 pm | Reply

Robert I aint got nuh more twang and or accent than Marvo Manning, or the Manager of CBC Allison whatever her name is, or Pearson Bowen, etc. But Bajan can smell an “overseas bajan” even over the phone.:D
